IGI REVIEW:

in the early 2000s a shift occurred in the gaming scene with those person shooters fairness appalled linear and totally action-oriented games were being supplemented by more realistic grounded releases that tend to be more spacious and dynamic in their level design the tactical shooter genre cemented itself as Ghost Recon and operation flash point but in 2000 project IGI laid the groundwork potatoes like Far Cry in crisis by giving players huge levels and an authentic flavor to the gameplay it's a pre solid FPS with a bunch of great ideas let down by the roughness of its production and some bad game design in project IGI you play as David Jones an ex SS commander logging with the Institute for Geo tactical

intelligence we've time to track down a road to nuclear warhead in Eastern Europe we're supported by onion who relays their objectives between missions and on the fly there's fairly minimal interaction between them which isn't very good when they're the only characters in the entire game and that's the entire plot there's no twists or surprises or any actual steps when a villain appears it's more like oh ok so they could actually afford more than to voice actors or sort of outside of cuts scenes all in mission dialogue is purely text banks will just comes up as very cheap and half-assed there's almost non-existent story isn't while you're playing IGI as a gameplay redeem set dawn are the cramped industrial warehouse and office during to the park if the wide open wasteland that makes up the fast long corner through ratio perhaps wastelands are fair with some nice weather effects and impressive vistas showing up to decent if blurry textures it definitely captures a setting just kidding your duel fair share warehouse searching

and office  Clearly as that's what most missions require you have a single base or multiple installations need to be infiltrated for some such purpose within them you'll scour the area for information and clear it of any threat most just revolves securing a vehicle or activating a terminal IGI is level slides can be huge and easily dwarf it's contemporary with the one loading screen containing towns train stations military bases and enemy guards vehicles for a lot of games it's simple to create realistic looking levels it's another such thing to model being time but how to actually be laid out agrees for a letter route by making you actually work to enter the levels proper enemies to the site barracks widow rush out if the alarms race largest central buildings frequently and basements with elevators

and warehouses contain numerous supplies and items after some time you'll start to notice the copy and pasted nature of the game's assets buildings and interiors don't differ much with the exception of a few levels however it can really feel like you're exploring an actual diffuse cold war-era base instead of some corridors light together even if it's just as linear because while getting across the cold towering mountain tops there's only one way to infiltrate the level but that path will be cover with many shell casings and by infiltrating a really means killing everything that tries to point a gun at you with a sizable selection of firearms most ops have you starting with science mp5 and a Clock but you can pick up aka spaz shotguns and uses of fallen soldiers there's more infrequent items like splat rifles D Eagles and m16 each are modeled and sound just fine with a really nice mechanical effector each weapon IGI definitely goes to the realistic angle by having actual ballistics spraying where enemies is going to get you nowhere fast encouraging more short controlled bursts out of the plant which was 2000 with something very very different there's also brought penetration in the game which as you'd imagine is fucking awesome wooden doors and walls where an enemy high behind doesn't mean much we have pepper them from the other side this also works in their favor too pretty a simple thought

if you're in cover some moderation is recommended however as most bases have security cameras and alarm system you want to get the drop on the enemy first so if the alarm system sounds and you see dozens of enemies rushing towards you your chance of success drop dramatically of course if you pick up a jackhammer you basically win and everything dies instantly things will defer rate of fire and damage the enemies themselves do get progressively tougher and better equipped with even armored units entering the fray requiring some heavy ordnance so the gunplay can be fun but project iggy has a lot of wars started getting killed it's reasonable in this kind of game that you're fragile against direct gunfire but it's also clear cause you'll have enemies unloading clips into your leaders away once your Stane slight damage avoiding most of the thoughts other times for the same enemies will fucking drop you at full health instantly this will happen a lot you'll avoid damage before suddenly dying and seeing mission failed into the screen IG is gun skin tone and hair inaccuracy I get it realism on all but firing an AKM sixteen shouldn't resort in a spray of laws all over the place if you dare go full auto strangely enough though shotguns are absolutely deadly but their range being equal to that of a rifle making them great in all operations and so the enemy is smart quite the contrary they're dumb as a stump as long as an alarm isn't counted you can clear out an entire room with an LMG with zero reaction from the guards who removal there's attempts are some interesting tactics like enemies stuck into the ground after being shot at but usually they'd be like to you in the last emissions of the game the difficulty ramps up significantly with precision marksman they will annihilate you before they even properly materialize into the maps essentially being invisible but why am i bitching about all of this because of EGS most frustrating in egregious 4-0 saves and mid level continues it doesn't matter what you've done or how far you've comet getting you're lucky or just getting blindsided and you're starting all the way back this turns great sections of the game into trial and error bullshit we have to memorize where each and every enemy is especially on the later levels we're turning a corner can really fuck you up this makes the game very repetitive and boring we just trekked slowly across mountains we're getting killed and doing it all over again nah fuck it all culminates into a ballbusting Lee hard final level that goes on and on and on and on made worse with the glitches and vicious damage inflicted on you then it has the goal to throw in an escort objective it is fucking brutal and an overall shitty conclusion I gos enjoyment just fluctuates so drastically it's very frustrating to pratik it as there are genuinely great moments peppered throughout the annoying bullshit the openness to the environment and sense of authenticity of very compelling reasons to keep playing builds in the earlier steps of boarding tactical shooters if you can find a copy on the cheap it's worth it however those are willing to deal at unfit difficulty and numerous hiccups can probably avoid this one you .
